5 Reasons Your Cat Needs Taurine Drops (And Why You Need The Real Ones)

If your cat is over 5 years old, indoor-only, or eating commercial food, read this short article before you buy anything else for your cat's health.

Reason 1: Cats Physically Can't Make Their Own Taurine

Unlike dogs, humans, and most other mammals, cats lack the enzyme needed to produce taurine in their bodies. They get 100% of it from their food. If their diet falls short, they have no backup system. (Source: Knopf et al., Journal of Nutrition, 1978)

Reason 2: Cooking Destroys Up To 50% Of Taurine In Cat Food

The manufacturing process for canned cat food (retort sterilization) destroys around half the taurine before it reaches the bowl. That's why AAFCO requires double the taurine in wet food vs dry — they know it gets destroyed. The taurine on your label isn't the taurine your cat is actually absorbing.

Reason 3: Deficiency Develops Silently Over Months

Taurine deficiency doesn't show symptoms until significant damage has already occurred. Your cat's plasma taurine can drop to 4% of normal in just 5 weeks. By the time you notice slowed energy, dull coat, or vision changes — irreversible damage to the heart, eyes, and kidneys may have already started. (Source: Pion et al., Science, 1987)

Reason 4: One Deficiency Affects 4 Critical Systems

Taurine isn't just one nutrient. It's essential for heart function (prevents dilated cardiomyopathy), retinal health (prevents irreversible blindness), immune response, and bile acid digestion. One small daily gap silently compounds into multiple system failures.

Reason 5: Most Taurine Supplements Are Powders Cats Reject

Cats have evolved to detect tiny chemical changes in food — they'll smell a powder supplement immediately and refuse to eat. Liquid taurine drops are flavorless, odorless, and dissolve invisibly into wet food. The cat doesn't notice. The dose actually gets consumed.

I don't write reviews. I'm writing this one because I researched cat supplements for two weeks before buying, and I want to save someone else the time.

Here's what I found out:

Cats can't synthesize taurine — they have to get 100% of it from their food. Commercial cat food adds taurine, but the manufacturing process destroys a significant percentage of it. AAFCO literally requires double the taurine in canned food because they know retort sterilization wipes out half. The "complete and balanced" label is measured against a minimum threshold, not optimal levels.

I also found out most taurine supplements are powders, and cats reject them because they change the taste of food. So even if you're "supplementing," the cat might be eating less of the food (and less of the supplement) — net negative.

Liquid drops solve both problems. My cat doesn't notice it. She eats normally. The dose actually gets consumed.

I docked one star because the bottle is small and I'd prefer a 60-day supply option for the price. But the product itself does what it says. My cat's coat is noticeably better after 5 weeks. Her energy is up. I'll keep buying it.

One warning: I bought my first bottle from a third-party Amazon listing and it didn't work the same. The official site (felinevitals.com) is the only place to get the real product. Lesson learned.

"I should have started this 3 years ago"

I'd been watching my cat Mittens slow down for about a year. She's 11 now. She used to wait at the door when I got home from work — that stopped sometime around her 10th birthday. I told myself she was just getting older. My vet said the same thing.

Then my sister-in-law (who has 4 cats and is basically a cat encyclopedia) asked me one question: "Is she on taurine drops?"

I'd never even heard of taurine for cats. She explained the whole thing — that cats can't make it themselves, that cooking destroys most of it in commercial food, that older cats absorb it less efficiently. She'd been giving Feline Vitals to her cats for 2 years.

I ordered it that night.

Three weeks in, Mittens started purring more. Like the deep loud purr she used to do. By week 6 she was greeting me at the door again. Not every time, but most days. Her coat got softer. Her energy came back.

I cried the first time she ran across the living room. I genuinely thought I'd lost that version of her.

If your cat is over 8, please don't wait for the vet to tell you something's wrong. The bloodwork is always last to know.

I strongly advise you NOT to leave this page…

Because this could be your only opportunity to get the Taurine Drops and help your cat's longevity.

Our Taurine Drops Is Only Available On Our Official Website

You won’t find it anywhere else on the Internet.

If you come across something similar, it’s just a cheap imitation.

The authentic Feline Vitals Taurine drops is only sold on our official website for only $29.95.

Considering the science behind the formula and the results our customers see in just weeks, this is an incredible value.

To give you an idea, the brand consultants we hired recommended us to charge $79 a bottle.

It made complete sense from a business standpoint.

However, we're not a faceless corporation. We're cat parents ourselves.

And our one and only goal is to help as many cats live longer, healthier lives as possible — not to maximize profit per bottle.

That's why we keep Feline Vitals priced at $29.95 — and that's why we'll never sell on Amazon, eBay, or anywhere else where third-party sellers can mark it up, dilute it, or counterfeit it.

If you want the real Feline Vitals — the one that actually contains the full vet-formulated taurine dose — there's only one place to get it.

Because Feline Vitals has gone viral on TikTok, third-party sellers on Amazon, eBay, and unofficial sites are now selling counterfeit bottles with diluted formulas, expired ingredients, or no taurine at all. Some of these knockoffs have caused cats to vomit or refuse food entirely.

The ONLY way to get the real, vet-formulated Feline Vitals is directly from the official site:
